This presentation will show physicians how to access the US Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) for Contraceptive Use.  Various contraceptive options will be introduced and discussed. Attendees will gain an understanding of absolute vs. relative complications for a variety of contraceptive methods.  

By the end of this lecture, participants should be able to:
•    Access the US MEC for contraceptive safety information
•    Compile a list of 2-3 “go-to” contraceptive options for their general patient population
•    Understand absolute vs. relative complications for a variety of contraceptive methods

Accreditation Statement:
Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.  MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsä.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Grievance Policy for AOA Credit:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance.  Initially, all grievances should be directed to MAOPS Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee.  All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt.  If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Monica Jenette Tschirhart, MD, FACOG

Dr. Jenette Tschirhart has been an OBGYN practicing at MaineGeneral Health in Augusta and Waterville, Maine, since 2020. She previously was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was the residency program director at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Tschirhart completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City, New Jersey. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas.  

Dr. Tschirhart is a board-certified diplomat in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has earned various awards, including being an Academy of Teaching Scholar from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine from 2018-2020 and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) National Teaching Award in 2019.  

Dr. Tschirhart lives in coastal Maine with her husband and three children. She enjoys hiking in New England, knitting, and playing video games with her kids in her spare time.
