Point of Care Ultrasound in Primary Care

This session is focused on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in the primary care setting. It will start with an explanation of point-of-care ultrasound. We will then discuss the advantages, disadvantages, physics, and Probe types available for point-of-care ultrasound. We Will then Review practical applications of point-of-care ultrasound for the primary care setting and look at different types of ultrasounds available for purchase and educational opportunities for point-of-care ultrasound.

• Define point-of-care ultrasound testing point of care ultrasound (POCUS)
• Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of POCUS
• Understand the physics of ultrasound and the different types of probes available
• Know and discuss the different applications of POCUS in the primary care setting
• Discuss the different ultrasounds available for purchase
• Discuss the process and resources for POCUS Self-education
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 1-A Credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.
Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this enduring activity for a maximum of .75 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsä. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.
Robert S. Arnce, MD, FACEP, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Kansas City University - COM
Dr. Robert Arnce is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Kansas City University. He is also an attending physician at the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He has practiced emergency medicine for 30 years. Dr. Arnce received his board certification in Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) in 1999. He graduated from William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, and the Mayo Medical School, Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and received his fellowship from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 1999.
He is actively involved in Sepsis, Covid-19, and Pneumonia Research. Other areas of interest include Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Tick-borne illness, Emergency Department Practice Management, and quality improvement.
