In this presentation, physicians will learn how to perform a history and physical exam for abdominal pain.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how to perform a history and physical exam for abdominal pain.
  • Identify a diagnosis in patients with abdominal pain.
  • Appy treatment to patients with abdominal pain.
  • Recognize and evaluate patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Apply treatment to patients with IBS.

Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.  MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Grievance Policy for AOA Credit:

MAOPS Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee.  All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt.  If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

 

 

Matthew Bechtold, MD, AGAF, FACG, FASGE, FASPEN

Dr. Matthew Bechtold is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Gastroenterologist practicing general gastroenterology and nutrition at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia School of Medicine. He completed his residency and his fellowship at the University of Missouri - Columbia & Harry S. Truman Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.  He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Dr. Bechtold is board certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

He has published over 100 articles in outcomes research, nutrition, enteral access, and preventative strategies despite a busy clinical schedule. He is actively involved in multiple national societies and serves on multiple national committees as a member and chair. He has been a national speaker on various topics in gastroenterology, quality improvement, and nutrition. He is very passionate about gastrointestinal diseases, nutrition, and quality improvement.
