Osteopathic Approach to Knee Pain in the Adult Patient

A workshop focused on the application of osteopathic principles in the clinical management of knee pain in adult patients, including the treatment of somatic dysfunction related to knee pain.

Educational Objectives:

  • Discuss the sources of knee pain in an adult patient
  • Discuss the etiology, epidemiology, and risk factors for developing knee pain in an adult
  • Explain the pathophysiology of different types of knee pain
  • Discuss the clinical manifestations and the physical examination finding of different etiologies of knee pain
  • Describe and administer the osteopathic manipulative treatment approach to the management of knee pain and discuss the treatment goals of the various type of techniques
  • Identify measures to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of knee pain

Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credit and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.

Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsä.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) and the National Center for Osteopathic Principles in Education (NCOPPE). MAOPS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Grievance Policy:

Heather Bird, DO, NERMC Residency Program

Heather Bird, DO is a resident at Still OPTI/Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO. She is currently in her first year of residency. Dr. Bird earned her doctor of osteopathy medicine from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Brent Dixon, DO

Brent Dixon, DO, is an assistant professor at AT Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). Dr. Dixon is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from ATSU-KCOM, and he completed his NMM residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
