Migraines: Signs, Pathophysiology, Symptoms & Treatment Options

Migraine is the most common diagnosis to present to a Neurology office. It is an underdiagnosed and under-treated ubiquitous neurological condition in the community. There has been an explosion in the understanding of migraine pathology and a dramatic increase in treatment options to improve the quality of life in this debilitating condition. This talk focuses on its finding, pathology, and options for prevention and rescue treatment.

Learning Objectives:
•    Discuss differences between primary and secondary headache disorders
•    Understand central and peripheral nervous systems involvement in migraine pathophysiology
•    Discuss five phases of migraine and symptoms
•    Review diagnostic criteria for migraine subtypes
•    Review acute treatment options for migraine therapy
•    Discuss prevention options for chronic migraine management
