In this presentation, learners will discover treatment algorithms to treat common mental health disorders. Learners will gain a better understanding of how to improve their diagnosis of mental health disorders and also understand new treatments for psychiatric disorders to help improve patient outcomes. PCP's and Psychiatrists should attend this presentation.
At the conclusion of this lecture, the attendee should:
• State the general treatment algorithm for the approach to a patient presenting with a psychiatric disorder, such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the anxiety disorders
• Rule-out conditions that masquerade as psychiatric disorders
• Understand some new treatments for common psychiatric conditions
• Apply this information to several case studies of patients presenting to their PCP and know when a referral to a psychiatrist is appropriate
