LGBTQ+ Medical Case Scenarios: An Experiential Learning Perspective


Any healthcare provider who wants to learn how to provide more culturally competent care to the LGBTQ community will greatly benefit from this presentation. The following topics will be discussed during this presentation: LGBTQ+ terminology; the difference between sexuality and gender identity and at what age each can present in youth; issues LGBTQ people face, including coming out, premature disclosure, internalized trans and homophobia; and how to help a patient or colleague feel comfortable coming out to you.
