The Osteopathic Approach - Presentation #1 combines three workshop presentations on the uniquely osteopathic approach in the clinical management of knee pain, low back pain, and obesity and weight loss. These workshops focus on applying osteopathic principles in the clinical management of the covered conditions, including osteopathic manipulative treatment of somatic dysfunction that may be encountered in patients with these conditions.
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 3.75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.
Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsä. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Megan Aspelund, DO, is an osteopathic resident physician currently training at the STILL OPTI/NRMC Kirksville Family Medicine Residency program at Kirksville, Missouri. She graduated from the ATSU School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona in 2018. She is from Anchorage, Alaska, where she completed her undergraduate training and has recently accepted a job position as an Osteopathic Family Medicine Physician in Wasilla, Alaska, where she will work following graduation from residency in 2022.

Heather Bird, DO is a resident at Still OPTI/Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO. She is currently in her first year of residency. Dr. Bird earned her doctor of osteopathy medicine from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Gary L. Bruning, DO, MS, is an assistant professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) and serves as the residency director for the NRMC Family Medicine program. He graduated from ATSU-KCOM in 1983 and completed his residency at the Eisenhower Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He practiced rural medicine for 30 years, 22 years of which he was employed by Avery Health Systems in South Dakota prior to coming back to Kirksville. Dr. Bruning enjoys doing multiple procedures, including endoscopy, multiple different kinds of joint injections, as well as utilizing OMM in all his years of practice.

Brent Dixon, DO, is an assistant professor at AT Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from ATSU-KCOM, and he completed his NMM residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Shawn Holcomb, DO, is an assistant professor of Family and Community Health at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Quincy, Illinois. Dr. Holcomb returned as a faculty physician after graduating from the SIU-Quincy Family medicine resident program in 2009. Dr. Holcomb is married with six children, with only one living at home. She loves to do outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and riding her motorcycle. She really loves to walk and has completed three half-marathons. She is very active in her church and tries to go on a mission trip every one to two years. In her downtime, she loves to read.
