VOC Registration Information

The VOC is presented by the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association (GOMA), the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS), the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA), the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association (NCOMA), the Ohio Osteopathic Association (OOA), the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon (OPSO), and the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA). This conference offers up to 48 CME credits of AOA Category 1-A Credit and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ in a flexible format.

VOC General Information

Flexibility:

The VOC is all about flexibility! You have the flexibility to choose:

  • When to attend: Attend live virtually February 17-19, 2023, or attend on-demand anytime between February 17 and June 30, 2023.
  • Where to attend: You can view from anywhere you have internet access – at your home, at the lake, at a ski resort, at your office, or all of the above.
  • What to attend: Pick and choose from any of the 48 presentations in the VOC to customize the program for what you need.
  • How much to attend: You select the credit category that works for you…but when you see more, you want to attend (and we know you will!), you can increase it to another level, and we will honor the increased credit discount.
  • Credit type: The VOC presentations are accredited for both AOA and AMA category 1 credit. It will work for you, no matter how you are boarded.

Live Virtual Conference:

The live virtual conference will be held February 17-19, 2023. The live virtual conference allows attendees an opportunity to interact with faculty in real-time during the presentation. There are three educational tracks for the conference, including Family Medicine (24 Credits), Internal Medicine (16 Credits), and Emergency Medicine (8 Credits). You will be able to attend a maximum of 24 credits during the virtual live dates.

On-Demand:

All 48 presentations will be available for on-demand viewing within two hours after each live presentation concludes. This allows you the opportunity to complete any presentation you may have missed during the live portion and view any of the other presentations on your schedule. To provide attendees the maximum flexibility, the conference will remain available for completion on-demand through midnight on Friday, June 30, 2023.

Credit Options:

Registrants can choose from various credit level categories for this virtual conference in 8-credit increments. You can attend up to 24 credits from February 17 through 19 or earn up to a total of 48 credits on-demand. You choose which presentations to attend. If, after your initial purchase, you would like to increase to a higher credit level category, we will honor the discounted pricing. If you want to purchase additional credit in 8-credit increments, please call MAOPS at (573) 634-3415.

Faculty Interaction:  

Live conference attendees can chat and interact with faculty and other attendees while the presentations are playing. The VOC faculty will pre-record their lectures so they can answer questions in real-time throughout the entire presentation. In the on-demand format, attendees will see all comments made during the live presentation and will be able to email questions to content experts. This offers you the maximum flexibility in what CME you take and when you take it.

Registration Deadline:

Registration for the VOC will end on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at midnight. You will have until midnight, Thursday, June 30, 2023, to finish viewing presentations.

Rates:

Member vs. Non-Member Rates – To take advantage of "Member Prices" for this conference, you must be a member of one of the six partner associations listed above. Membership will be verified with each partnering association. If you pay the member rate and you are not a member of one of the six partner associations, you will be able to either join the state association or you will be required to submit the difference between the member rate you paid and the non-member rate before your CME certificate is made available! 

NOTE: Registration for the VOC will end on Wednesday, May 31, 2023!

Cancellations:

The registration fee for cancellations requested through Tuesday, January 17, 2023, will be credited back to the card used for your original purchase, less a $50 administrative fee. No refund will be given for cancellations after January 17, 2023!

The VOC is co-sponsored by the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS), the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon (OPSO), the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association (GOMA), the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA), the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association (NCOMA), the Ohio Osteopathic Association (OOA), and the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA). Each of the five osteopathic associations is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. 

The VOC has been designated for a maximum of 48 AOA Category 1-A credits by the VOC sponsors who have authorized MAOPS to report CME and specialty credits to the AOA commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

MAOPS is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

MAOPS designates this conference for a maximum of 48 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AOA Grievance Policy:

Dr. Arpit Aggarwal received his medical degree from B.J. Medical College in Pune, Ahmedabad, India. He completed his residency in Psychiatry and his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Missouri and is currently the Medical Director of the Psychiatry Emergency Services. Dr. Aggarwal also serves as the Training Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Aggarwal is board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Robert Arnce is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Kansas City University. He is also an attending physician at the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Dr. Alon Avidan is a Professor of Neurology at the University of California in Los Angeles, California (UCLA), where he directs the Sleep Disorders Center and serves as Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee for the David Geffen School of Medicine. He completed his medical school training and his residency in Neurology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Avidan then completed his fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Avidan was recently awarded and served as Visiting Professor of Neurology Education in the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He also was selected to receive the 2014 American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Excellence in Education Award for career contributions to education in sleep medicine. Dr. Avidan has published over 100 manuscripts on sleep disorders. He has co-authored four books: "Handbook of Sleep Medicine," "Geriatric Sleep Medicine," "Review of Sleep Medicine," and "Atlas of Clinical Sleep Medicine." Dr. Avidan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and a Diplomate in the Specialty of Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Logan Banks is a professor of family medicine and obstetrics in Burundi, East Africa, at the Hopital Espoir de Kibuye – Kibuye Hope Hospital - at Hope Africa University. Dr. Banks is a graduate of A.T. Still University - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) in Kirksville, Missouri. He then completed a family medicine residency at CoxHealth in Springfield. Tim Beals, DO's Profile

Dr. Tim Beals is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip preservation and joint replacement of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He sees patients at Sports Medicine Oregon, in Tigard and Wilsonville, Oregon. Dr. Beals earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign. He graduated with his medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. Dr. Beals completed his internship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. He then completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at The Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia.

They are the leading innovators in advanced hip arthroscopy, anterior hip replacement, and the surgical treatment of hip dysplasia. 

In addition to seeing patients at Sports Medicine Oregon, Dr. Beals is a team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard teams and previously provided medical care for professional ice hockey and indoor football, Division I and II athletics, and high schools.

Dr. Beals is originally from Chicago and is excited to bring his wife back to the Portland area, where she grew up. Dr. Beals enjoys hiking, snowboarding, playing ice hockey, and cooking in his free time.

Dr. Matthew Bechtold is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Gastroenterologist practicing general gastroenterology and nutrition at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia School of Medicine. Dr. Bechtold completed his residency and his fellowship at the University of Missouri - Columbia & Harry S. Truman Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.  He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Dr. Bechtold is board certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Despite a busy clinical schedule, Dr. Bechtold has published over 100 articles in outcomes research, nutrition, enteral access, and preventative strategies. He is actively involved in multiple national societies and serves as a member and chair on multiple national committees. He has been a national speaker on gastroenterology, quality improvement, and nutrition topics. He is very passionate about gastrointestinal diseases, nutrition, and quality improvement.

Charles Blanke, MD, FACP, FASCO's Profile

Dr. Charles D. Blanke is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology at the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. He also serves as chair of SWOG Cancer Research Network, an international group of nearly 6,000 physician-researchers that design and conduct cancer clinical trials. As part of the National Clinical Trials Network of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), SWOG is a worldwide leader in rigorous, large-scale cancer trials, with results leading to the approval of more than 14 FDA-approved drugs since its founding in 1956. Dr. Blanke is board certified in Internal Medicine and Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Blanke is committed to pathway-driven, patient-centered cancer research. Since taking over as chair of SWOG in 2013, he has advanced innovation, inclusion, and integrity by launching a major lung cancer precision medicine trial, creating a leadership program for young investigators, forging partnerships with VA medical centers nationwide, and making the group more accessible and accountable by instituting term limits for committee chairs and launching The Front Line, a weekly blog available at www.swog.org.

Dr. Blanke previously had a particular interest in investigational treatments that target the genetic and molecular abnormalities that cause cancer. He was instrumental in the development and approval of imatinib mesylate (Gleevec) for use in patients with locally advanced and metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Dr. Blanke currently chairs the Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Task Force for the NCI's Gastrointestinal Steering Committee. He has also significantly aided the development of chemobiotherapy use in patients with advanced colorectal cancers.

More recently, Dr. Blanke has been involved with policy and research issues related to medical-aid-in-dying (MAID), including the decision-making process, demographic descriptions of users, and drug development. He is a member of the Life's Door Hope Hub, an international collaborative group dedicated to engaging and inspiring people to live with hopefulness and meaning in the face of illness. 

Before joining OHSU, Dr. Blanke was vice president of systemic therapy for the British Columbia Cancer Agency, professor and chief of medical oncology at the University of British Columbia, and head of medical oncology at Vancouver Hospital. Dr. Blanke serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Board of Directors and is a fellow of ASCO and the American College of Physicians. A SWOG member since 1999, Dr. Blanke served as subcommittee chair for colon cancer, then as chair of the group's gastrointestinal committee.

Dr. Blanke graduated first in his undergraduate class at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, then earned an MD with distinction from the same institution. He completed his residency at Gundersen Medical Foundation in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Blanke then was a hematology/medical oncology fellow at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he served as chief fellow. He then served as faculty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, while heading its clinical trials research operation for a number of years.

Dr. Alex Bryant is an Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist in the Department of Pharmacy at Mercy Hospital St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Joseph Carrington is an Iowa native and a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned a dual-degree Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine and a Master's in Healthcare Administration. Dr. Carrington went on to do his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. During his fellowship, he also served as Chief Fellow and was awarded "research fellow of the year" and "house officer of the year." His research interests were in the inflammatory pathways of inhalational lung injury and recovery, including IL-6 and IL-10.  His research was presented at the American College of Chest Physicians annual conference, where he was awarded for being one of the top 5 presentations that year. Returning to Iowa, Dr. Carrington now works as an intensivist and pulmonologist at MercyOne in Des Moines, Iowa.

He is co-founder of Cleaver Medical Group, a multi-physician, multi-specialty practice serving numerous communities in north Atlanta. Dr. Cleaver received his medical degree from A.T. Still University - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) in Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Cleaver completed his internship at the St. John Health System in Oakland County, Michigan. He completed his Dermatology residency and served as chief resident at Michigan State University - St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Suzanne Crandall is board certified in Neurology by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. She recently started working for the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) in Charleston, West Virginia. Dr. Crandall is the Clerkship Director and is beginning the neurology residency program and seeing patients as part of Charleston Area Medical Center Neurology. She previously was a Consulting Neurologist working in General and Vascular Neurology at Saint Luke's Health System's Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute, located in Kansas City, Missouri. While in Kansas City, Dr. Crandall was also the Stroke Director of the Saint Luke's Northland facility, a Primary Stroke Center, and was the Medical Education liaison between the Neurology group and the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. William Elliott is a Professor of Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pharmacology, Chief of the Division of Pharmacology, and Chair of The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington. After receiving the B.S. (summa cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame, he earned an M.D. and Ph.D. (in Bio-Organic Chemistry) from the University of Chicago in Illinois. He trained in Internal Medicine and Pharmacology at Barnes Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Elliott served as a faculty member at the University of Chicago from 1985-92. His focus was on epidemiologic studies of risk factors (including diagonal earlobe creases), laboratory investigations, federally-funded cooperative clinical trials, and many industry-supported endeavors, serving as principal investigator for about 200 clinical trials of new drugs. Dr. Amie Vanmorlan is a Pediatric Endocrinologist who currently practices at the University of Missouri Health Care Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center at Women's and Children's Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Child Health, Third Year Clerkship Director, and Fourth Year Course Director at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. Dr. VanMorlan is board certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and in Pediatric Endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics/Endocrinology.

Dr. Cassandra White is a 2012 graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, New York. After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree with a concentration in economics, she completed a post-graduate year-1 pharmacy practice residency at the VA Maine Healthcare System in Chelsea, Maine. Dr. White began her career in academia at Husson University, Bangor, Maine, in 2013 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2019.

Dr. White started her career in 2005 as a pharmacy technician. Over time, she gained experience working at various pharmacies. She is board certified as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist and a Geriatric Pharmacist by the American Pharmacists Association. Dr. White is also a member of the Maine Pharmacy Association, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and American Pharmacists Association. She was on the Board of Directors for the Maine Pharmacy Association for five years and served as President from 2016 through 2019.

Dr. White is the proud recipient of multiple awards and honors.  These include the HUSOP Teaching Excellence Award for Pharmacy Practice (2020), P2 Teacher of the Year (2020), P4 Teacher of the Year (2016, 2020), National Community Pharmacists Association Pharmacy Leadership Award for Maine (2018), Distinguished Young Pharmacist for Maine (2016), HUSOP Faculty Preceptor of the Year (2016), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year (2016), and Who's Who of American Universities (2012). Dr. White is a former soccer and basketball player at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and competed on three division championship teams during her collegiate career. She is an avid runner and completed a full marathon in 2015. Dr. White has finished 21 triathlons with her sister. She also enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

He specializes in diabetes management/consultation, cardiovascular risk reduction, and medication therapy management.
