In this presentation, Dr. Reynolds will provide an overview of the current management of common knee and shoulder pain. This session will also include common evaluation tools, treatment options, and modalities.
Learning Objectives:
• Learners will be able to identify common causes of chronic knee and shoulder pain in both pediatric and adult age groups.
• Learners will understand the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis and its basic diagnosis and management.
• Learners will be able to perform basic exam maneuvers of the knee and shoulder and know when advanced imaging is necessary/warranted.
• Learners will explore the use of injections and ultrasound technology in the outpatient setting.
• Learners will explore, analyze, and apply the use of different types of medications, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications and possible narcotics, in the treatment of these patients in the outpatient setting.
• Learners will develop skills and understanding to utilize injections with or without imaging devices to perform these procedures.
• Learners will improve the care of chronic knee and shoulder pain in patients using current evaluation and treatment modalities.

Dr. Eric Reynolds is a Sports Medicine Physician in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Reynolds graduated with his bachelor's degree in Integrative Physiology in 2010 from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated in 2014 with his Doctor of Medicine degree, also from the University of Iowa. Dr. Reynolds completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2017 before completing one year as Chief Resident in 2018. He then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's in 2019, where he treated patients and athletes of all ages. Dr. Reynolds is board certified in Pediatrics and Sports Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Reynolds specializes in musculoskeletal complaints, diagnostic ultrasound, and concussion management with associated return-to-play decisions. His areas of expertise are diagnosing and managing many common musculoskeletal injuries for patients of all ages. This includes acute muscle or ligament injury, non-surgical fractures, osteoarthritis - including ultrasound-guided injections, stress fractures, and overuse injuries.
Dr. Reynolds enjoys biking, running, pick-up basketball, and spending time with his wife and two kids outside of work.
