Chronic Pelvic Pain for the Primary Care Provider

In this presentation, Dr. Wasson will discuss chronic pelvic pain in female patients. The common co-morbidities associated with chronic pelvic pain, like irritable bowel syndrome, major depressive disorder, pelvic inflammatory syndrome, and others, will be reviewed. The symptoms, etiology, appropriate evaluation review, and treatment/management options will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
•    Learners will recognize the significance and frequency of pelvic pain.
•    Learners will identify common peripheral pain generators.
•    Learners will understand central sensitization.
•    Learners will comprehend and apply treatment modalities and emerging therapies for treating chronic pelvic pain.
•    Learners will emphasize the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach involving various specialists to treat chronic pelvic pain.
