In this presentation, Dr. Wasson will discuss chronic pelvic pain in female patients. The common co-morbidities associated with chronic pelvic pain, like irritable bowel syndrome, major depressive disorder, pelvic inflammatory syndrome, and others, will be reviewed. The symptoms, etiology, appropriate evaluation review, and treatment/management options will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
   Learners will recognize the significance and frequency of pelvic pain.
   Learners will identify common peripheral pain generators.
   Learners will understand central sensitization.
   Learners will comprehend and apply treatment modalities and emerging therapies for treating chronic pelvic pain.
   Learners will emphasize the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach involving various specialists to treat chronic pelvic pain.

Dr. Megan Wasson is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Medical and Surgical Gynecology Department Chair at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. She was awarded the Outstanding Emerging Educator Award in 2020. Dr. Wasson is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Wasson completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Christiana Care Health System. She completed her Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Wasson is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, she is certified in Laparoscopic Surgery by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. 

Dr. Wasson is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She has received numerous awards, including being named by Phoenix Magazine as the TopDoc in Obstetrics/Gynecology in Phoenix in 2021, 2022, and 2023. She is actively involved in multiple national and international medical societies and committees including the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), Minimal Access Surgery Committee Chair, Director of AAGL Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (EMIGS) Curriculum, former Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (FMIGS) Board of Directors Member, co-Founder of the FMIGS Young Alumni Network, and former SurgeryU Board of Directors Member. 

Dr. Wasson is a sought-after speaker on gynecology, robotics, endometriosis, and minimally invasive surgery and has completed over 150 invited lectures. Dr. Wasson is actively involved in research with over 70 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters. Her clinical interests include endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and robotic and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
