The presentation will discuss the connection between oral health and overall health. By critically evaluating the literature, together presenters will identify linkages between oral health and systemic disease. Practically, presenters will review what to look for when screening patients for oral diseases during a physical exam.

Erinne Kennedy, DMD, MPH, MMSc, graduated from Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine in 2015. She completed a 1-year GPR residency at a VA Hospital in 2016, a Dental Public Health residency in 2018, and a MMSc in Dental Education at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2019. She serves as the director of pre-doctoral education at Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine in Joplin, MO. Dr. Niessen currently serves as Founding Dean and Professor, Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine and Vice Provost for Oral Health Affairs. She is a board-certified public health dentist and has fellowship training in geriatric dentistry. She has provided clinical care to medically complex patients at VA Medical Centers in Boston and Dallas, TX. Dr. Niessen received her dental degree (DMD), her public health degree (MPH), and Masters in Public Policy (MPP) degree, all from Harvard University. She received a BA in chemistry (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.
