Joseph Carrington, DO, MHA


Dr. Joseph Carrington is an Iowa native and a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned a dual-degree Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine and a Master's in Healthcare Administration. Dr. Carrington went on to do his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. During his fellowship, he also served as Chief Fellow and was awarded "research fellow of the year" and "house officer of the year." Dr. Carrington is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.  

His research interests were in the inflammatory pathways of inhalational lung injury and recovery, including IL-6 and IL-10.  His research was presented at the American College of Chest Physicians annual conference, where he was awarded for being one of the top 5 presentations that year. Returning to Iowa, Dr. Carrington now works as an intensivist and pulmonologist at MercyOne in Des Moines, Iowa.
