Laura E. Crotty Alexander, MD

Dr. Laura Crotty Alexander is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego and is the Section Chief of Pulmonary Critical Care at the VA San Diego in California. She completed her undergraduate and medical education at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, before completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She completed her Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship training at Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Crotty Alexander then completed her postdoctoral research fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of California San Diego. Her research focuses on the health effects of e-cigarettes and molecular pathways in asthma and lung inflammation in general. Dr. Crotty Alexander is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

Dr. Crotty Alexander has studied the health effects of e-cigarettes and vaping since 2013, which remains the LCA lab's focus. She currently directs the first block of the UC San Diego School of Medicine and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and she has contributed to medical education in multiple ways. She created and ran the American Thoracic Society Resident Boot Camp.

In her free time, Dr. Crotty Alexander's hobbies include baking, reading, beekeeping, and traveling.
