In this didactic and experiential learning session, the learner will experience the clinic setting through the eyes of the LGBTQ+ patient. Research show LGBTQ+ patients are at high risk for mental and physical health disparities. These disparities are worsened by perceived and actual barriers to culturally competent LGBTQ+ healthcare. Many topics will be introduced on how to help physicians make the healthcare setting a safe and welcoming environment for their LGBTQ+ patients, including the impact of the waiting room, intake forms, patient interactions. The presenter will also use role-playing and an interactive A & A session to reinforce learning. This presentation will help physicians gain insight and knowledge on how to create a physical environment that feels safe and welcoming for their LGGTQ+ patients.
