Shannon Trotter, DO, FAAD, FAOCD
Dr. Shannon Trotter earned a Bachelor's Degree in biology with a minor in psychology from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated medical school from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio in 2006. Following medical school, she completed a dermatology residency at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Georgia, where she served as chief resident. After residency, Dr. Trotter completed a fellowship in cutaneous oncology at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. She then was the Director of the Pigmented Lesion Clinic at the Ohio State University from 2011-2017. She is currently in private practice with Dermatologists of Central States and the Associate Program Director for the OhioHealth Dermatology Residency Program in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Trotter is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. Dr. Trotter is board certified in Dermatology by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology.
Dr. Trotter has several clinical interests, including prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer and health policy and advocacy. She is a past president of the Ohio Dermatological Association and served on the American Academy of Dermatology State Society Relationships Committee. In addition, she is a District 2 Councilor for the Ohio State Medical Association and an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association. Dr. Trotter is the recipient of the American Academy of Dermatology's Presidential Citation Award in 2017, the Ohio Dermatological Association's Distinguished Service Award in 2018, and the Ohio Osteopathic Association's Mentor of the Year Award in 2021. She has been recognized nationally for being in the top ten percent of physicians for patient satisfaction.
Outside the office, Dr. Trotter enjoys reading, traveling, and baking. In addition, she also loves public speaking and helping patients understand the importance of skin health. Her favorite part of the day is spending time with her family and Shetland sheepdog, Charlie.
Dr. Trotter discloses that she received speaker fees from Castle Biosciences, Amgen, Pfizer, and Sun Pharmaceuticals. She also discloses that she is a consultant and has received research support from Castle Biosciences. All relevant financial relationships have been mitigated.
